It’s a snow day in Colorado, a perfect excuse to nail down some details. I’m finally getting up the nerve to approach the Early Purple Orchid, a most interesting and complex early riser in the Burren. I saw hundreds of these bright and tiny orchids on the one day I trekked through the Burren. No more than six to eight inches tall, they were everywhere! Drawing them is intimidating, as are ALL orchids. Each little flower is complicated, and there can be a dozen per stalk! Did I say tiny? My drawing will be about five times life size, there’s no other way to show the minute details in the blooms. Much redrawing and fussing yet to do before color appears.
